The districts of Jima and Güel (Sígsig-Azuay) are localities where the majority of the population lives and daily generates a close link with the so-called archaeological and cultural heritage. Despite this, there is a notable dilemma in the meaning and legal application of this concept by the inhabitants, since its definition is proposed from the supervisory institutions at the national and local level and not from a strictly social perspective. In this sense, this research aims to identify the relationship that the habitants of Jima and Güel establish with archeology and materiality. Through the recognition of different narratives and discourses around heritage. In short, it is intended to make an analysis of the social structure of Jima and Güel and how they understand heritage in comparison to what is officially established. This will be conducted by applying a mixed and interdisciplinary methodology. Finally, it's necessary to emphasize that this research is part of the research-linking project "Materialities, Education and Public: Uses and Social Meanings of the Archaeological Heritage in Sigsig".
