(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-07-29) García Sarmiento, Mateo Sebastián; Loayza Pinzón, Kerolyne Eilyn; Jiménez Encalada, Marcia Gabriela
The prevalence of overweight and obesity has maintained an upward trend over the years, constituting a serious problem worldwide, increasing morbidity and mortality, and at the same time, a significant economic expense for a country since it affects the social, economic and occupational development of the individual. The objective of the study was to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity associated to factors and comorbidities in workers of the Graiman Industrial Group, Cuenca, 2023. A cross-sectional analytical study was carried out with a 95% CI in 979 workers who worked at the Graiman Industrial Group, Cuenca, during the period January - August 2023. A database with access to the clinical history of the workers was used and it was analyzed in the SPSS v. 20 program. Descriptive statistics were used, determining relationships by means of chi-square with statistical significance p<0,05. The results obtained showed a prevalence of 47.6% overweight and 19.7% obesity. Total hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia were the most common comorbidities, with 42% and 41.2%, respectively, where more than half were overweight and obese. It was determined that being a man, being older than 40 years of age and occupying the position of transport worker was associated with a greater probability of being overweight or obese, and this was statistically significant.
