    Comparación de abordaje abierto y cerrado en septorrinoplastia en pacientes del servicio de otorrinolaringología del Hospital Latinoamericano de 1 de enero del 2008 al 31 de diciembre de 2012

    Objectives. Describe comparatively features open and closed approach for conducting septorhinoplasty as demographic variables, reason, preoperative edema and scarring and immediate postoperative complications. Material and methods. With a descriptive design of information collected septal interventions performed from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2012 Latin American Hospital in Cuenca city, involving the same surgical team. We analyze the frequency distribution and compared the groups in terms of the approach. Results. He accessed information of 1183 patients who underwent septorhinoplasty (56.7%), septoplasty (39.1%) and rhinoplasty (4.2%). Predominance of males (55.1%). The average age of the sample was 26.54 ± 11.7 years (range 7-84). Students, professionals and housewives meant for 90.7% of all cases. The reason was aesthetic surgery (5.4%), functional (39.9%) and mixed (54.7%). The closed approach was used in 87.4% of cases. The degree of edema III (61.7%) and IV (20.1%) and immediate postoperative complications: nasal obstruction (15.4%), hemorrhage (12.8%) and injury to deeper structures (2%) was significantly higher in the open technique. The closed approach postoperative complications decreased by 26% [RR 0.74 (95% CI 0.67 to 0.83)] P <0.0001. Discussion. There is a notable increase in the closed approach for a septorhinoplasty.
