Item Consumo de alimentos y estratificación social en sectores de “El Vado y puertas de El Sol” de la ciudad de Cuenca, Azuay, 2018(2019-05-08) Espinoza Guarango, Karen Michelle; Freire Ochoa, Jennifer Andrea; Acurio Páez, Fausto David; García Alvear, Jorge LuisBackground: Changes in food consumption may be associated with socioeconomic and political changes. Inadequate nutrition is related with multiple determinants such as: schooling and age of the head of household, health system, environment, living conditions and household income. Objective: To determine the characteristics of food consumption according to social stratification in the neighborhoods of “El Vado” and “Puertas de El Sol” in the city of Cuenca, Azuay, 2018. Methodology: Quantitative, analytic and cross-sectional study, were surveyed 471 heads of household from two neighborhoods of the city of Cuenca. The information was obtained through two surveys (Annex 7 and 8) that were validated in advance, the data were evaluated through frequencies and percentages. Chi square were used to determine the association between neighborhood, studied characteristics with the perception about the variety of food consumption, and causes. Results: Interviewees between 35 and 59 years of age, and women predominated. Residents of “Puertas de El Sol” eat mostly at home, and from “El Vado”, generally outside of the house, the difference between the neighborhoods and the levels of Social Stratification, with respect to food variability, is highly significant. Conclusion: according to the study group it shows that there´s segregation in specific zones of the city of Cuenca based upon socioeconomic stratum, its settled that in the neighborhood of Puertas de El Sol there’s households that belongs to the stratum High or Medium-high, and in El Vado there´s the stratums Medium typical and Medium low with respect to food variability, is highly significant.
