In Ecuador, the Ministerio de Transporte y Obras Públicas (MTOP) manages approximately 9,800 km of roads, most of which have a paved roadway formed by hot asphalt mixture, the quality of which is controlled mainly through the parameters obtained by the Marshall method during the lying. The present research proposes an alternative for the quality control in asphalt concrete roads, where for any reason it could not be done at the beginning. For this, in two sections selected in the Gualaceo – Plan de Milagro road, quality control was carried out during paving and afterwards, the tests were repeated in cores extracted at the same points, after 30 and 60 days. It was determined that the parameters of granulometry, percentage of voids, voids in the mineral aggregate (VMA), voids filled with asphalt (VFA), asphalt binder content and filler-bitumen ratio, do not vary significantly, keeping within the ranges required in the technical specifications of the MTOP, therefore, the tests carried out on extracted field cores can be considered adequate as a criteria for verification of these quality parameters of hot asphalt mixtures. On the other hand, the values of Marshall properties stability and flow increase, establishing a relation that allows to verify the quality of the mixture through the elaboration of Marshall tests on field cores extracted after the paving.
