    Incidencia del riesgo crediticio en la rentabilidad de las Cooperativas de Ahorro y Crédito del Azuay

    The research on credit risk has become crucial for the profitability of savings and credit cooperatives in the province of Azuay due to the growing volatility and complexity of the financial environment, which is why Savings and Credit Cooperatives (COAC) face the challenge of maintaining a balance between granting loans responsibly and ensuring their financial health. The main objective of this research is to see if there is an incidence of credit risk on the profitability of COAC in the province of Azuay between the year 2019 and 2023, considering segments one and two according to the data provided by the Superintendencia de Economía Popular y Solidaria (SEPS). The methodology employed in this research was panel data with fixed effects and ordinary least squares, obtaining the following results where it is shown that in segment one there is not enough evidence to affirm that credit risk is affecting the profitability of these COAC. However, in segment two, there is significant evidence to accept that credit risk affects their profitability. Considering various investigations, it was concluded that this is due to several internal and external factors of the COAC, including some macroeconomic, social, and credit policy aspects, among others.
