    Mitos y creencias sobre sexualidad en los adolescentes de Baños. Cuenca 2014

    Background: Sexual myths are still present in society, and some of them are known as such, but others are not so clear causing misinformation. Objective: To determine the myths and beliefs about sexuality among adolescents in Baños city of Cuenca. Methodology: A descriptive study to determine the myths and beliefs about adolescent sexuality Baños city of Cuenca in a sample of 337 people between 12 and 18 years old; direct interview techniques and surveys were conducted using a structured form, consent from parents and assent from the study group. Results: The highest number of students is between 12-14 years with 42.7% with 51.6% of female participants. Teens believe that having sex is good for health (57%); first intercourse is painful (57.6%); the man must have their first sex with experienced women (36.8%); condoms protect from all STDs (53.4%); homosexuality is a disease (35.9%), and masturbation is a social problem (31.5%) and myths: the woman is a virgin as long as blood in their first sexual intercourse (63.8%); oral sex protects against sexually transmitted diseases (39.2%); You can get pregnant if you have intercourse during menstruation (32.6%); sterility contraceptives (39.2%); contraceptives weight gain (54%) and female masturbation (48.1%). Conclusions: The prevalence of myths and beliefs in the adolescent population is high Baños.
