In recent years, the use of geospatial data has experienced a sudden growth, becoming a determining factor in decision-making across a wide range of sectors. Geospatial information, originating from various sources such as remote sensors, GPS, and geographic information tools, has seen extensive use in various environmental, urban, and other areas, capable of providing a profound understanding of the surrounding environment. The quality of geospatial information largely depends on accurate and comprehensive metadata, which are essential for its retrieval and organization. Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs) facilitate access to geospatial information through web environments; the UCuenca SDI offers services such as web maps, interactive map visualization, and layer management. Considering that inadequate metadata management can lead to the loss of relevant data and hinder information exchange, this thesis project proposes a metadata harvester to enhance the UCuenca SDI, centralizing geographic information, improving its services, and seeking to facilitate decision-making in urban planning and other sectors. Finally, to provide guidance to future readers and facilitate its implementation in other contexts, a Best Practices document was developed for the implementation of a geospatial metadata harvester with GeoNetwork.
