    Anemia asociada a la inflamación: prevalencia y factores asociados en pacientes ingresados en el Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso Cuenca 2021

    Introduction: Inflammatory Anemia (IA) is the impaired production of erythrocytes associated with chronic immune activation, it is mainly a disorder of iron distribution and the second cause of anemia in the world.Objectives: to determine the prevalence of anemia due to inflammation and its associated factors in patients admitted to the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital (HVCM) during the year 2021.Methodology: A cross-sectional analytical study was carried out in a sample of 440 patients hospitalized in the Internal Medicine area of the HVCM, the sample calculation was performed with 95% confidence, 50% probability of occurrence and 4.2% error, for data collection, a form designed and prepared by the author was applied, for the analysis the Chi Square was applied for association between variables and OR to measure the intensity of association, with a significance level of 5% (p<0.05 ), processing performed in the SPSS V27.Results: a prevalence of IA of 18.18% was found in all hospitalized patients. Associated factors were: age (p=0.018); diabetes (p=0.003), infection (p=0.001) and chronic kidney disease (p=0.025). The presence of IA was not related to mortality in this study. Conclusions: the prevalence of IA was 18.18% and is mainly associated with the age of the patients and the presence of chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, infections and chronic kidney disease.

    Características clínicas y epidemiológicas de los pacientes con anemia hospitalizados en el área de pediatría del HVCM de enero-diciembre. Cuenca, 2020

    Anemia is the most frequent hematological disease in pediatric age, a timely diagnosis and treatment avoids sequelae such as low cognitive and physical development of children. GENERAL OBJECTIVE. To determine the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of patients with anemia hospitalized in the pediatric area ofHVCM. METHODOLOGY. A descriptive, quantitative study was carried out in 101 patients, who were admitted to the pediatric department of the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, the data was collected from the clinical history of the patients, who presented anemia whose diagnosis was made based on laboratory data; respecting the ethical standards of the institution. The data were recorded in a form prepared by the author, were tabulated and analyzed in the SPSS 15 program. Descriptive analysis was carried out for the mean quantitative variables and standard deviations and for the qualitative frequencies and percentages. RESULTS. Anemia predominated in the male gender (52.5%), in the minor infant (42.6%), children residing in rural areas (61.4%), the highest frequency of anemia was in mild stage (75.2%), predominating anemia of inflammation (66.3%), followed by mixed anemia (15.8%), in 3rd place iron deficiency anemia (13.9), the main cause of hospitalization was pneumonia (55.4%), about half had some degree of malnutrition (42.6%), the most frequent being severe malnutrition in 17%. CONCLUSIONS. The main cause of anemia was inflammation, predominantly in young infants, living in rural areas, with adequate nutritional status.
