(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-02-21) Curillo Durazno, Andrea Etelvina; Rosales Jaramillo, Guido Leonel
The development of social skills encourages interpersonal communication and allows us to have a good relationship with other people. The general objective of this research is to describe the use of social networks and social skills in first-year high school adolescents from the Manuela Garaicoa de Calderón Educational Unit in the city of Cuenca in the period 2022-2023, according to the variables age, profiles on social networks., as well as identifying the social skills scale dimensions in adolescents. The research has a quantitative approach, non- experimental design, with descriptive and transversal scope. The population we worked with is 39 first-year high school students between 14 and 17 years old. The instruments that were applied are: the social skills scale (EHS) where the higher the overall score the subject expresses, the more social skills and assertion capacities in different contexts. In addition, the social network addiction questionnaire (ARS) was used, which determines addition. to social networks by the subject and analyzes the sociodemographic part where the adolescent develops. As results, it was found that first-year high school students present moderate and high levels of use of social networks, as well as a prevalence of a low level of social skills. It is important to note that the results of this research process cannot be generalized to all students within educational institutions since the information presented here applies only to the population studied.
