Introduction: some characteristics of eating and health patterns in adult Saraguro population living in Cuenca are described. Objective: to analyze the influence of globalization on eating and health patterns of the Saraguro adult population living in Cuenca, 2020.Methodology: it is a phenomenological qualitative research, whose categories are: globalization, eating and health patterns. The studied population consisted of five people between 20 and 64 years old from Saraguro who are living in Cuenca for at least 5 years and without language difficulties. Additionally, a focus group was in charge of triangulating and validating the information. The data was processed with Atlas.ti version 6.2. Axial coding was carried out to build units of analysis based on the a priori categories and their dimensions were shown in the reports. Results: the stress and distance from work to home, among others, were identified as factors that influence health conditions. The participants try to maintain their customs such as the use of “anaco” in clothing, the celebration of traditional festivals and their rituals connected with nature; regarding health care, they initially look for ancestral health agents, but they recognize technology and qualified specialists to go in any emergency, such as surgical procedures. Conclusions: the globalization has an important influence on eating habits and daily customs of the population living in an urban environment, however, the eating patterns of the group under study have not changed significantly. Regarding health in the first instance, care is sought in traditional medicine and, if they need help they look for professionals in Western medicine

Globalización, patrones alimenticios y salud en población adulta Saraguro asentada en la ciudad de Cuenca. 2020
(Universidad de Cuenca, 2021-06-15) Cuenca Aguilar, Joffre Patricio; Galarza Jumbo, Alan Mateo; Acurio Páez, Fausto David
BACKGROUND: globalization is a dynamic and growing process that seeks to unify the culture and philosophy of people through technology. Our current society and global changes tend to influence the lifestyle of the population, one of the most relevant modifications is diet. Consequently, by eating differently, the diseases they suffer are not the same as we would expect to find in their birth place, a situation that occurs in Ecuador, where indigenous people and nationalities are most likely to be affected, especially causing a gradual loss of their customs and habits. OBJECTIVE: to analyze the influence of globalization in the change of eating patterns and health in the Saraguro adult population settled in Cuenca, 2020. METHODOLOGY: phenomenological qualitative research. The basic categories of analysis are: globalization, eating patterns and health. The study population was made up of adults between 20 and 64 years old from the Saraguro community settled in the city of Cuenca, who lived here for at least 5 years and had no language problems. An in-depth interview was conducted, in order to triangulate and validate the information received, a focus group was held. The data was processed with the open license program Atlas.ti version 6.2. RESULTS: we obtained a report that describes the problem based on the interviews and focus group, this creates a baseline for future interventions. A scientific article was published in the digital repository of the University of Cuenca. Feedback of the results in the communities of origin of the participants
