(2013) Bueno Guartazaca, Celia Alexandra; Cruz Curco, Carlos Fernando
The illustration and typography are two important camps of different study. They are used as communication tools that have expressive power. Thanks to typography can become image, these two branches (illustration and typogra-phy) will be combined and you can create an image to inform depending on the lens as it arises. In this project, I am going to do a typographic illustration of an important cha-racter of Cuenca and it will be based on an aesthetic of metal culture. The illus-tration concept originated in the study of the characters of Cuenca because they have been used to teach in schools for many years. However, those cha-racters are forgotten. They are important characters in the history of Cuenca and Ecuador. The objective was proposing an attractive idea to remember them, using typographic illustration which was built with sentences that report on the character. The intention is to design for young people with a modern and known aesthetic, making it attractive and easy to access. To create the design, I had to find enough information about typography, illustration, cha-racter and beauty that will be handled. For the preparation of the product, first I needed to obtain the typographic illustration. Then the pattern was done on the shirt with a convenient technique and in this way the final product was obtained

Diseño editorial basado en el análisis iconográfico de la cultura Tolita
(2013) Astudillo Ortiz, Juan Sebastian; Cruz Curco, Carlos Fernando
Starts from a detailed study on the history of the Tolita Culture, from its geographical and chronological location, through its cultural and archaeological significance to its plastic and technological production, highlighting its iconographic richness, abundant, and of great aesthetic value, of religious, quotidian and ritual origin. This first section is already complemented with general notions of pre-Columbian Andean design, their semiotics, language, symbolism, and their worldview are exposed. Secondly, the fundamentals about editorial design: format, space, text and image, balance and harmony, reticule, typography, composition, color and its terminology, hierarchies and photography, which are expanded and employed in subsequent instances. Similarly, at this time, concepts are incorporated about different elements of basic design, such as: shape, size, structure, direction, space, texture and color. Finally, the last chapter is exclusively devoted to the design process itself, in which an individual analysis of five photographs selected according to the complexity of the shape and its possible significance, including decorative, worship and utilities objects with anthropomorphic, anthrop zoomorphic and geometric figures, is developed. The content of this research ends with recommendations and conclusions, and personal criteria, intended to be considered in the future for those interested in similar studies.

Estudio de las gráficas de cerro Narrío perteneciente a la cultura cañari, como medio de rescate cultural
(2013) Tigre Amón, Andrea Magaly; Cruz Curco, Carlos Fernando
Nowadays, acculturation has become so harmful to the society because of the next reasons. First, because ethnic groups have been forced to leave their communities to go to the big cities in order to get a job and have a better education. In addition, this process of change involves other factors such as change of lan-guage, writing, loss of customs and traditions. Therefore, it could be said that this change has caused the loss of identity. This project tries to rescue this identity specially the “Cañari Culture” contributing to the reuse of the Cañari graphics based on their meaning and their symbolic importance. It can be said then that the best way to communicate is unifying the past with the present days. In the last years, the use of technology has increased such as the use of laptops, tablets, and smart phones. People need to protect these objects and for this reason, the market has develo-ped many products like cases, skins, etc. with modern designs. The goal of this project is to propose new graphics reusing the Cañaris graphics addressing them to a public between 16 to 24 years old in Cuenca city, and in a direct or indirect way spread this cultural history contributing to the rescue of the cultural identity
