Item Incapacidad provocada por tinnitus en usuarios de la Casa de la Diabetes, periodo 2023- 2024(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-04-08) Calle Calderón, María de los Ángeles; Criollo Llivichuzhca, Amanda Estefania; Vélez Arias, Luis AntonioBackground: Tinnitus is the phantom perception of a sound that is not associated with an external stimulus source. The severity of tinnitus can vary from very mild to catastrophic, the latter generating greater disability, hindering daily activities. Tinnitus is associated with metabolic disorders such as diabetes, which is the second most frequent metabolic disease worldwide. Objective: To determine the degree of disability caused by tinnitus in users of the “Casa de la Diabetes” during the period 2023-2024. Methodology: Prospective, quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional, descriptive study with a sample of 132 participants. Due bioethical and confidentiality considerations were taken into account for data collection. The variables were recorded by means of a self-developed form, subsequently, the Tinnitus Handicap Test (THI) was applied. The tabulation was performed in: IBM SPSS STATISTICS version 29.0.1.0. Results: The most frequent degree of disability was mild with 12.9%, the moderate degree of disability was present in 12.4%, the catastrophic degree of disability with 3.0%. Conclusions: The present descriptive study demonstrates that users of the “Casa de la Diabetes” present disability associated with tinnitus from non-disabling to the catastrophic degrees of disability the latter limits activities of daily living. Theses data provide a basis for future research and guide the generation of strategies to improve their quality of life.
