(2018) Arcentales Cayamcela, Nube Tráncito; Criollo Inga, Anabel Vanessa; Peña Contreras, Eva Karina
The general objective of this research was to describe positive mental health in older adults considering the demographic factors, meanwhile the specific objectives were focused on describing the dimensions of positive mental health and identifying similarities and / or differences in mental health positive of older adults according to demographic factors. The methodology used includes a quantitative approach, with descriptive scope, in addition, comparisons and correlations between these variables. We worked with 100 older adults from the city of Cuenca, chosen through a non-probabilistic convenience sample, they were located and evaluated in diverse points, such as Universidad del Adulto Mayor, religious centers, retirement groups and public places. We used two instruments to achieve these objectives, the first one refers to a tab for demographic data and the second is the scale Mental Health Continuum –Short Form of Keyes, which was validated in the Ecuadorian population with a high consistency internal (a = 91). The results of this research indicate that positive mental health in the elderly is at a high level as well as in the emotional and psychological dimension, in contrast to the social dimension, it remains at a normal level. In terms of the comparison made, there’s no significant differences in the behavior of positive mental health according to the demographic factors considered in the study. Finally, we concluded that there’s no significant relationship between the positive mental health of the elderly and the demographic factors.
