    Prevalencia de anemia con sus factores asociados en niños/as de 12 a 59 meses de edad y capacitación a los padres de familia en el Centro de Desarrollo Infantil de la Universidad de Cuenca. Cuenca, diciembre 2015 - mayo 2016

    OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of anemia in children from 12 to 59 months of age with their associated factors, and training parents in the Child Development Center at the University of Cuenca (CEDIUC). METHODOLOGY: This research is based on a descriptive - transversal prevalence, it was conducted by obtaining hemoglobin tests to 90 children 12 to 59 months of age and parent questionnaires about risk factors; the same was applied validated surveys to visualize the degree of knowledge, attitudes and practices on food and nutrition regarding iron deficiency. Frequencies and percentages are handled, and the average, median and mode numeric variables in statistical programs. RESULTS: The prevalence of anemia was 43.3% total, 30% of children had mild anemia and 13.3% suffered from moderate anemia. The condition had a significant association with respect to age, gender, place of residence, socioeconomic status, perinatal factors and current nutritional status. On the knowledge and practices in relation to food, it was noted that thanks to the training was improved from 31.4% to 89.9% at the end of the study. CONCLUSION: It does show some important relationships between anemia and risk indicators despite the small number of participants. You give lectures and workshops on a regular basis to parents and staff CEDIUC to improve their knowledge and prevent future complications deemed appropriate, necessary and preventive.
