    Análisis de los factores que afectan la demanda de energía eléctrica y su estimación. Sector residencial del área de concesión de la Empresa Eléctrica Regional Centro Sur C.A., período 2002-2012

    The purpose of this paper is to present the explanatory variables of the energy demand for the residential consumers in the CENTROSUR’s concession area in order to analyze the evolution of the series and determine the relationships with economic factors, contrasting and validating the results with economic theory applicable to the study. To analyze the behavior and predict the energy demand two approaches have been used: the Method Error Correction (MCE) and the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA). The information used for this purpose was the monthly data between 2002- 2012 of some variables which were probed to influence the energy demand. These variables are: rate, oil prices, electricity available, customers, service coverage, IDEAC, average price of electricity, average consumption. Additionally this study identifies the elasticity of the energy demand in the short and long term, under the assumption of inelasticity according to characteristics of the service and past behavior of the series.

    Análisis del Déficit tarifario eléctrico ecuatoriano para el período 2008-2012 y alternativas de eficiencia energética y económica

    The Ecuadorian Government has allocated significant amounts of the State general budget to cover the tariff deficit of the electric subsidy, generated by the regulation economic on the prices for this service. These regulated tariffs generate inefficiencies, on the one hand encouraging consumers to misuse this resource and putting at risk the future sustainability of this sector and the energy grant which has failed to have a good focus. As a result of that inefficiency, this work analyzes the Ecuadorian Electric Sector and proposes alternatives the tariff deficit. This document is divided into 3 sections, section 1 refers to the electric energy sector in general, history, sources of generation, electrical interconnections, users and electricity tariff, losses of energy among other important aspects. Section 2 deals with the tariff deficit and the quantification of this grant (residential sector) for the period 2008 – 2012. And finally in Section 3 we propose alternatives of energy efficiency and economic thetariff deficit.
