    Acuteappendicitisisthemostperformedemergency surgery worldwide.Thehigh ratingofmorbidityandmortalityassociatedwithcomplicationssuchasthelocalized orgeneralized peritonitis,which determine prolonged hospitalization,higheconomic costsand workproductivity. Objective.To establish the factorsassociatedwithdelayeddiagnosisand treatment ofacute appendicitisatThe Homero CastanierCrespo Hospital ofAzogues from Februaryto July 2013. Dataandmethods.Cross-sectional;universeof117appendectomypatients. We used a structured questionnaire to collect data.The analysiswasperformed with SPSS20. Results.The 61.54%of appendectomypatientswere female,of which63.25 livein urbanareas.The52.1%ofappendiceswerecomplicatedbypathology.Therisk factordelayingappendectomy istheself-medication;with2.4timeshigherriskof complications,NSAIDswith26,5%and35%ofspasmolyticthemostconsumed.The 68.4% ofthose patientsadmittedwith reference-counterreferences,whichisa protectivefactoralthoughnotstatistically significant. Theclinicalevolutiontimein hours,theaveragewas29.39 hoursand in 35%ofpatientsonerrorindiagnosis, but no statistical significance. Conclusion. The highprevalence ofcomplicationsofacuteappendicitisisinfluenced byself-medication,butlessimportance is the errordiagnosisin the primary
