Public space has historically been directed and "naturalized" to the male gender. This is due to the distinction established by positions of power regarding domestic space, as a private space for women and a public and socially active space for men. However, social spaces are a fundamental key to shared development; therefore, we must seek to create public spaces that benefit everyone. Documents such as the Guidelines for the Design, Use, and Regulation of Inclusive and Safe Public Spaces for Women and Girls (parks and markets) establish zones of violence, called "spaces of fear," notoriously related to the design of these spaces without considering the gender perspective in cities like Cuenca. Among these spaces, parks are considered places with the highest incidence of violence, with women experiencing it more frequently, 76 percent of whom are women compared to men (CEPLAES, 2019). Therefore, the Megaparque de la Luz, as part of the Green Belt Project and connecting both the urban and rural sectors, is useful as a case study for the research, as it raises questions about whether these parameters were taken into account in the design.
