Teorización sobre la iconografía cerámica arqueológica Jama Coaque aplicada al Arte
(2019-11-15) Chaguancalle Parra, Diego Rolando; Ordóñez Carpio, Santiago
The objective of this study is to analyze iconographically some pieces of Jama Coaque pottery. Through them, theorize and understand how aesthetics, thinking and customs of social and cultural actions of prehispanic people were formed and transformed with the arrival of Spaniards in the sixteenth century. In addition, this study aims at glimpsing the role played by Catholicism, its symbolism and iconography. This allows us to understand the influence and impact of Catholic art on discovered towns, their philosophical, social, religious and cultural thinking which had the purpose of wiping out all forms of artistic expression of conquered people in order to control not only the territory and its thinking but also to control the enormous material resources such as gold, silver, precious stones, etc. creating an economic rationale contrary to prehispanic people´s cultural beliefs. Furthermore, the symbology and shapes of Jama Coaque pottery are utilized to redesign them and provide them with new contexts within art, important in the dynamic of contact between past and present.
