iolence is a social and multi-causal phenomenon to which all people beyond our ethnicity, gender, age, religion, ideology, to a greater or lesser extent, are exposed and harmed in terms of respect and fulfillment of our rights. In this sense, this research analyzes the sociocultural context from which practices of violence in same-sex couples are generated in the canton of Cuenca. Through an interpretive paradigm and a qualitative approach, in a first moment, the manifestations of violence and the sociocultural factors that contribute to its naturalization are described, to, in a second moment, determine the consequences that it produces. violence in same-sex couples and propose guidelines for action from Social Work with an approach that prioritizes preventive rather than palliative. Seven married or cohabiting same-sex couples who live together for more than two years and who reside in the city of Cuenca participated. The research concludes that “intragender violence”, that is, in same-sex couples, is associated with the economic, social, cultural and family environment of each person. Physical, psychological and economic violence is present in the couples investigated, which has serious consequences on the physical and emotional well-being and, by extension, on the couple's coexistence. A particularity in this type of violence is that the victims perceive and feel doubly violated, but they do not report it.
