Memoria operativa y control inhibitorio en escolares: perspectivas parental y cognitiva en Cuenca (2022-2023)
(Universidad de Cuenca, 2025-02-25) Cabrera Donoso, Mateo José; Castro Banegas, Erika Alexandra; Tacuri Reino, René David
The assessment of executive functions in childhood employs various methods to understand cognitive abilities in educational contexts. However, challenges persist due to the need for comparable evaluation tools. Objective: To examine the relationship between parental perception of working memory and inhibition and direct cognitive assessment applied to schoolchildren in Cuenca during the 2022-2023 period. Method: Spearman rho correlation test was used with a sample of 212 children and their parents. Parents completed the CHEXI questionnaire, while children took the CAB® PRO test from CogniFit ©. Results: A weak but significant correlation was found between working memory scores from the CHEXI and CAB® PRO (p = 0.001), whereas the correlation for inhibition was not significant (p = 0.068). Conclusion: Parental perception partially reflects actual performance in working memory but not in inhibition, possibly due to the difficulty parents face in accurately assessing this function.
