    Prácticas de medicina ancestral que utilizan los adultos mayores de la parroquia Baños – Cuenca, 2015

    Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) has been promoting the use of those traditional procedures that are safe and effective in Primary Health Care, since 1976; it has also been called to establish programs for the conservation of medicinal plants, as it appeared in the Chiang Mai Declaration 1988: "Hail Plants that Save Lives". (1) Objective: To identify the practices of traditional medicine used by seniors of the parish of Baños - Cuenca, 2015. Metodology: To identify the practices of traditional medicine used by seniors of the parish Baños - Cuenca, 2015. Methodology Methods and materials: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted; the universe is made up of 214 older adults, we worked with a sample of 121. The data obtained was performed using a form of surveys conducted by the authors. He typed in Microsoft Word 2003, Tabulation program was implemented with the Excel 2003 program. Results: In the Baños parish of Cuenca city, it is determined that 100% of seniors know about traditional medicine, 99.17% believe they are important to prevent, identify, treat and rehabilitate the disease. 27.50% to file a complaint made a preparation of homemade herbs among the most used by respondents are: 50% to 20% chamomile and the “Ataco” herb. The 94.21% rely on clean cure of terror. Conclusions: The research allows to know the social, economic and cultural determinants that evidence that older adults engaged in these practices, the same that are used for the prevention and curing diseases by adults over the parish of Baños
