    Situación de la salud bucal según prevalencia de caries, higiene oral y patologías orales más frecuentes de los Estudiantes de Odontología de la Universidad de Cuenca, 2014

    Tooth decay has become a permanent problem for public health worldwide, destroys the tooth as it is not treated tissues, this we know from the moment we walked into the university classroom to exercise our professional life and to check this study was to dental students as part of the university population. Objective. Determine the status of oral health as prevalence of caries, oral hygiene and more frequent dental students at the University of Cuenca oral pathologies. Methods. 295 students from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Cuenca (FOUC), was enrolled in the period studied 2013 - 2014 and a sample of 154 students between 17 and 26 years of first to fourth year of study was selected. Results. Caries prevalence of 89% DMF index was presented - D average was 0.6 ± 0.7 between a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 2.0 gingivitis also appeared in an average of 75.9%. Conclusions. There is a prevalence rate similar to other countries worldwide otherwise of severity of caries is better in the group of students (CPO D) There is a lot of control on the part of students and that is not equal severity prevalence seen in this way oral care not prevent dental caries but if its severity, but cannot say the same for gingival health by the presence of gingivitis which is present in a majority group of the sample.
