Medición de la presión del neumotaponamiento del tubo endotraqueal por manometría. Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso. Cuenca. 2021
(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-02-04) Castillo Calle, Luis Alfredo; López Torres, Guillermo Teodoro
Introduction The pressure of the endotracheal tube balloon if it is not adequate can cause several adverse events that can even be serious. In anesthesiology this is not usually taken into account, and subjective measurements are generally used, however, it is recommended to measure the pressure objectively and on several occasions. Objective To determine the pressure of the endotracheal tube pneumobulation by manometry at the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital in 2021 in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. Methodology Descriptive, cross-sectional study, for which a form was prepared and the balloon pressure was collected with a manometer after intubation. Results Data from 166 patients were obtained; the digit palpation method was the only one used by anesthesiologists. When using manometry, the mean pressure was 33.71 ± 12.97 cmH2O. Only 27.71% of the patients had adequate pressure (20-30 cmH2O). The mean age was 38.13 ± 15.85 years, the majority were women with 57.23% and the most used was a 7 mm diameter tube (66.87%). When comparing the variables with tube pressure, there was only a significant difference between the diameter of the endotracheal tube with p = 0.026. Conclusions In the study hospital, palpation of the guide balloon was used to determine the pressure of the endotracheal balloon, being an ineffective method since 27.71% had an adequate balloon pressure. Most with excessive pressures that can cause permanent adverse events.
