Item Autoestima y calidad de vida en la adultez media con discapacidad física(2018) Carpio Pazos, Luis Miguel; Lima Castro, Sandra EugeniaThe health services are in constant change, being necessary to stablish measurable indicators to determine its scope. This is especially relevant in people with disabilities, being a population in continuous growth that faces unique conditions, so knowing their levels of satisfaction is essential, quality of life is one of the theoretical constructs that reflects this perception, being a variable that depends on diverse external and internal factors. One of these factors is the self-esteem, which can be compromised in the disability by diverse reasons like the internalization of social stigma, the exclusion, and the devaluation that society generally imposes. For this reason, the present quantitative, cross-sectional, correlational study analyzes if quality of life and its different domains, proposed by OMS, are correlated with self-esteem; the study included 34 adults with physical disability aged between 40 and 65 years, patients of Centro de Salud Carlos Elizalde. The evaluation instruments used were: Quality of Life Questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF); spanish adaptation of the Rosenberg’s Sef-Esteem Scale; and a sociodemographic variables questionnaire. It was found that total quality of life score was significantly correlated with self-esteem with a low intensity; the overall quality of life was significantly correlated with self-esteem with a very low intensity, there being little relationship between the two variables. In the domains of quality of life only the psychological domain was significantly correlated to the self-esteem, this with a moderated intensity and positively.
