Publication Factores asociados al bruxismo del sueño en niños Revisión bibliográfica(2020) Barzallo Sardi, Vinicio Egidio; Garay Villavicencio, Juan Carlos; Cantos Tello, Paola Michelle; Condo Landy, Victor HugoBruxism is a disorder characterized by involuntary and nonfunctional grinding or clenching of the teeth during sleep. Its etiology is multifactorial but is often associated with genetic factors, psychosocial factors, sleep disorders, parafunctional habits, among others. This pathology can cause serious problems to the stomatognathic system, such as tooth wear, headaches, muscle aches and temporomandibular disorders. Polysomnography is the gold standard for its diagnosis; however, it has certain limitations such as high costs and also requires the patient to sleep in a sleep laboratory. However, its application is difficult for some patients, especially in children. Bruxism should be considered an important public health problem, because children are in a transcendental period for growth and development, the interruption of sleep can cause certain alterations, in addition, maintaining this childhood habit until adulthood can bring repercussions on general health; therefore, early therapeutic intervention should be carried out, in such a way as to improve the quality of life of children.Item Immunization strategies in dental caries: scopes and limitations(2020) Cantos Tello, Paola Michelle; Torres Tamayo, Gabriela Cecibel; Abad Ortiz, Hugo Alejandro; Rodriguez Coyago, Maria De lourdesDental caries is an infectious disease, multifactorial, and considered a global public health problem. Of the cariogenic microbiota, Streptococcus mutans concentrated for years as the main etiological agent of dental caries; leading the scientific community to consider it a target of immunization strategies. However, recent studies discovered a polymicrobial ecosystem with wide variability in dental caries, and S. mutans would represent only a small part of the bacterial community, being found in less than 1% in the different types of carious lesions. Several studies have been carried out that seek to control both the appearance and the advance of cavities, for which, vaccines have been developed in two ways: passive immunization and active immunization. Both types of immunization target antigens expressed on the cell surface of the microorganism. In this study, research on the subject published in the last twenty years is reviewed, in order to establish the current state of this field, and expose its scope and limitations when it comes to meeting the objective of reducing the incidence of caries, which, according to world load studies is still high. Although it does not constitute a health issue, in some cases it usually represents an aesthetic problem that can affect psychologically, for which there are currently several treatment alternatives such as: surgery with scalpel, laser therapy, abrasion, cryosurgery, electrosurgery, among others. The aim of this literature review was to analyze the available information about gingival melanosis and the therapeutics that can be applied to improve the appearance of patients with this condition. Articles in English and Spanish, published during the period 2000-2020 in the PubMed, Medline, Scielo, Cochrane and Lilacs databases, were reviewed. It was concluded that the selection of the technique will depend on each particular case, however, the laser is the most relevant.
