The strategy of IMCI (Integrated management of childhood illness), oriented by the PAHO (Pan American Health Organization), who (World Health Organization), UNICEF (United Nations Children Fund) and implemented by the MOH (Ministry of health) in Ecuador since 1996, has been a valuable tool to solve the health problems of children, as a process that contributes to the quality of care. It has not been evaluated in the local communities of health, so it is suitable to determine how is being applied at the health center "Parque Iberia" in the city of Cuenca. The study aims to describe the characteristics of the quality of care to the child from 2 months to 4 years of age with the implementation of the IMCI strategy in the health center "Parque Iberia", Cuenca 2014. The research was descriptive, transversal section; with a sample selection which included children from 2 months to 4 years of age who attended the consultation, in the months of May - August 2014. Applied forms along with the observation, that describes the skills of staff, the views of carers in care and health characteristics of the operating unit. The assessment index was 0.49 in nursing and 0.84 in medical staff being the optimal value of 1. Nurse is the largest provider of health for his simultaneous activities which prevents an ideal fulfillment of the tasks of IMCI.

OBJECTIVE: To describe the characteristics of quality child care in children from 2 months to 4 years old based on the integrated management of childhood diseases prevalent attention. METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional study; observational case management of 211 children from 2 months to 4 years old, who attended to the medical consultation. The results were analyzed using the descriptive statistical percentages method, frequency and reasons, using the SPSS version 18 and Excel 2010. RESULTS: The evaluation index was 0.84 at the Medical staff being the optimum value 1 and 0.49 in Nursing; nevertheless, it is the largest health care provider to fulfill multiple tasks. The service is characterized by the good treatment. CONCLUSIONS: The study allowed describing the quality of care with the implementation of the integrated management of childhood diseases prevalent attention. It was regular because it is not fulfilled in an integral form by a lack of training, updating, monitoring and lack of material and human resources, the request of the staff and users is that it is fulfilled
