Influencia de las reformas educativas en la demanda de educación superior en el cantón Machala, año 2014
(2015) Campoverde Cajamarca, Gabriela Lisseth; Castro Parra, Jully Jasmín; Sarmiento Jara, Juan Pablo
The research aims to analyze the demand for higher education from a microeconomic approach, meaning, like the study of characteristics demographic, socioeconomic and fitness of students influence their educational decisions. But also seeks to quantify the influence of reforms of higher education, such as gratuity and the National Review of Higher Education (ENES). The study population are young people last year of high school in Machala (El Oro). For methodology we used Sequential Logit model to examine the decisions of individuals because this model is used when they have more than one decision level, in this case the first level is the decision to study and the second level is the career choice. Among the main results we obtain that education of parents, the presence of older siblings who are studying or have completed college and type of school have a positive effect on the probability of continuing higher education. Gratuity, contrary to expectations, has a negative effect on the probability of studying this because most young people that are accessing the university, would study regardless of whether the university is free or not. The rating of ENES has a positive effect, because the young people with higher rating are those who access public universities. With regard to career choice has to gender, qualification ENES and qualifications of school subjects are crucial when making this choice.
