Objective: to determine the frequency of cytopenias in people living with HIV-AIDS (PLWHA) treated in the external consultation of the Hospital Vicente Corral Moscoso (HVCM) during 2016. Methodology: a descriptive study was carried out, in which the medical records of 263 patients were reviewed in the consultation of the HVCM in 2016, after authorization and applying bioethics standards. The INFINYTI virtual database was used, the database of the area of infectology and the form elaborated by the authors as instruments. The information was presented in frequency tables, graphs and diagrams. Results: the population was characterized by a mean age of 37 ± 12 SD years, male (68.4%), with a treatment duration of 1 to 5 years (57.8%). 45.6% of PLWHA had some type of cytopenia, of which 12.9% belonged to anemia, 31.1% to leukopenia, 0.6% to thrombocytopenia and 0.6% of patients had pancytopenia; The most common type of anemia was normochromic normocytic anemia, and neutropenia with or without associated leukopenia accounted for 61% of the population studied. Conclusions: the frequency of cytopenias was 12.9% anemia, 31.1% leukopenia, 0.6% thrombocytopenia and 0.6% pancytopenia
