The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between family emigration and the perception of the functionality of the family nucleus, from the perspective of university students between 18 and 25 years of age in Cuenca, Ecuador. The research used a quantitative methodological approach, with a non-experimental and cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 53 students who have direct migrant family members. For data collection, the Family Functioning Questionnaire (FF-SIL) was used together with a sociodemographic form. The findings indicate that the families present a moderate level of functioning, with relatively high scores in aspects such as affectivity and harmony, while the levels of adaptability and permeability are lower. In conclusion, it can be affirmed that, despite the challenges associated with emigration, many families maintain a balanced functional structure.
