Determinación de ácidos grasos poliinsaturados en extractos de microalgas (Nannochloropsis oculata y Tetraselmis suecica) obtenidos mediante extracción por solventes y fluidos supercríticos

Microalgae have aroused great interest in science and industry in the last decade, due to the presence of several useful metabolites. Among them, lipids stand out, mainly polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA's), which can be used for various purposes, for example, energy to obtain biofuels, nutritional value, for the development of food supplements. In addition, PUFAs are relevant in the prevention and treatment of several diseases, for example, at the cardiovascular level, capable of lowering blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels. They also act as antiproliferatives, decreasing the production of cancer cells in different types of cancer. PUFA's can be obtained from microalgae cultivated in artificial environments, at different scales, and can be considered eco-friendly. In this titling work, we sought to determine the presence and quantity of PUFA's in crops of two species of microalgae: Nannochloropsis oculata and Tetraselmis suecica. For this, the Blue Green-11 and Wright cultivation methods were used, respectively, in closed mode. From lyophilized biomass, extracts were obtained by applying two techniques: solvent extraction with n-hexane 100%, and supercritical fluids, with CO2 as extracting fluid and absolute ethanol as cosolvent. By gas chromatography with flame ionization detection, the composition of the different extracts was determined with respect to the content of PUFA's. It was evidenced that the extraction by supercritical fluids is more efficient in terms of the diversity and quantity of fatty acids obtained from Nannochloropsis oculata, while for Tetraselmis suecica, greater efficiency is observed in solvent extraction with 100% n-hexane. These results can perhaps be explained by different variables, such as differences in the structure and composition of the cell wall, and extraction conditions applied in each case
