    Background: Overweight and obesity are part of a pandemic that accelerates on a large scale. It brings with it serous consequences to health because it is one of the principal cardiovascular illness that can cause a big risk of a premature death. The public health system in the whole world must resolve this problem with prevention politics. Methods: it was investigated in a sample of 123 adult patients from external consultation in nutrition and endocrinology areas from Vicente Corral Moscoso hospital in Cuenca - Ecuador, during the period from the year 2015, with overweight and obesity diagnosis, whom agreed to be part of this descriptive investigation, in a cross section it determined the general clinical characteristics and the laboratory's patients with excess weight overweight and obesity it is associated with age, sex and HOMA index. Results: the weight excess affects more the female and the young adults. It was noted as the IMC value is higher; the presence of (acanthosis nigricans) is more often, it is the same relation to alterations of HDL, LDL, HOMA and triglycerides, which ones show as altered. Conclusion: overweight and obesity are problem which are linked to a social and biological variables that can be prevent only if it start to have several nutrition adjustments and physical activity since young ages
