The onion Allium cepa is a vegetable of great importance worldwide due to its high consumption. Its demand has grown due to the economic progress in different countries. In Ecuador, it is estimated that there are 10,000 agricultural production units dedicated to onion production. Recently, this crop has presented a diversity of varieties, including the Chabela variety. However, this crop is not free from phytosanitary problems, with Peronospora being one of the main pathogens affecting the quality and yield of this vegetable, which is detrimental to the producer's income. This study evaluated the efficacy of four synthetic fungicides: Methylthiophanate, Metalaxyl + Mancozeb, Fosetyl aluminum and Azoxystrobin + Difeconazole in the control of Peronospora sp on onion in Santa Isabel, Azuay, Ecuador. Study variables included incidence, severity, number of pustules, yield, bulb weight and bulb diameter. The results indicated that Methylthiophanate was the most effective treatment showing improvements in bulb weight, diameter and yield. On the other hand, Metalaxyl + Mancozeb was beneficial in severity and incidence of the pathogen.
