Item Enfermedad arterial periférica en pacientes con diabetes tipo 2 del Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga. Cuenca. 2018(2019-06-05) Cali Chillogalli, Fernanda Elizabeth; Gutama Villa, Jessica Maribel; Ojeda Orellana, Karina Paola; Roldán Fernández, José VicenteBackground: Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is more common in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) than in the general population, making them a high-risk group. Objective: to determine the peripheral arterial disease frequency in patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital. Methodology: descriptive, cross-sectional study in 315 patients diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus who attended José Carrasco Arteaga Hospital, in whom a previously validated survey was applied and determined the ABI (Ankle-Brachial Index). The data obtained were tabulated with the program IBM SPSS version 22 and for the analysis of the results were used descriptive statistics as frequency and percentage, measures of central tendency as average and dispersion measure as standard deviation. Results: a total of 315 patients with an average age of 62.9 years and predominance of females. The prevalence of PAD in patients with DM2 was 35.30% (43.9% in men vs 31.3% in women). The most frequent factors related to peripheral arterial disease were: age greater than 50 years (38.8%), male sex (43.9%), BMI ≥25 kg / m2 (38.6%), central obesity (43.8%), time of evolution of DM2 greater than or equal to 5 years (35.5%), hypertension (HT) (32.9%) and smoking (38.4%). 40.6% had levels of glycosylated hemoglobin ≥7%, 39.3% had hypertriglyceridemia and 34.2% had hypercholesterolemia. Conclusions: the frequency and associated factors of PAD found in people with DM2 is similar to other studies that use ITB as a diagnostic method.
