Item La Leishmaniasis cutánea una enfermedad desatendida en el siglo XXI, su significado cultural en los habitantes de la parroquia de Pacto del Choco Andino ecuatoriano(Universidad de Cuenca, 2023-01-10) Cajas Arcos, Daniel Javier; Neira Ruiz, Verónica LucíaThe following study is an anthropological analysis on the different forms of neglect of the state to the health-disease process, the social and cultural impact of cutaneous leishmaniasis on the inhabitants of the parish of Pacto del cantón Quito in the year 2019-2021 was determined, for which participant observation was carried out in the parish seat and in the Pachijal enclosures, Mashpi and Guayabillas, interviews were conducted with several people who have suffered from the disease, both visitors to the territory and local residents of the several generations of settlers who have inhabited this territory since the 1950s, as well as the staff of the Ministry of Public Health and technical specialists in the disease who maintain constant monitoring from public or private research institutions, a bibliographic review was also made on national and international publications on the disease and finally the archival data on the disease in the epidemiological records of the Ministry of Health were reviewed as conclusions Cutaneous leishmaniasis is a disease neglected by the State that lacks economic, human and technical resources to serve communities far from impoverished and racialized peasants, in the territory they know the disease as scabies brava and have known how to treat it according to the resources and information they have told according to their time, it is pending to continue conducting studies on side effects of the drug glucantine, the application of the vaccine, the impact of the development of the tourism industry in a context of pandemic and climate change.
