(Universidad de Cuenca, 2022-11-11) Cajamarca Barros, Paola Janneth; Calle Vélez, Jessenia Estefanía; Baculima Tenesaca, José Mauricio
Background: the ABO system was discovered by the Austrian Scientist Landsteiner in the year 1900, at that time it was considered that all individuals had the same blood type, causing difficulties in blood transfusions in incompatible individuals, this could even cause the death of the recipient. Some ABO phenotypes have also been associated with a higher risk of contracting certain diseases, for example: blood group O has been associated with gastric ulcer; On the other hand, blood group A is associated with gastric cancer. Objectives: to determine the frequency of chronic diseases and their association with ABO group, in patients at the INSTITUTO DEL CÁNCER SOLCA - CUENCA. Period May 2019 - May 2020. Methodology: a cross sectional observational descriptive study was carried out. The data was collected in a single determined time, in order to determine the chronic diseases and their association with the ABO group, in patients of the INSTITUTO DEL CÁNCER SOLCA - CUENCA. Period May 2019 - May 2020. The data from the patient’s medical history and the data obtained from the health home were collected, and for the analysis an Excel database and the SPSS Statistic 25 program were used, the results obtained were presented in tables and graphs expressing simple variables by means of frequency and percentage: and the dichotomous variables the prevalence ratio and Chi square. Results: Through this study it was determined that a total of 513 cases of patients studied suffer from some chronic disease being more common in older adult women belonging to the mestizo race. A total of 75.3% have blood group "O" being the most predominant.
