Background: In Latin America, EDA is among the main causes of morbidity and mortality in children under five years of age, it is also one of the main causes of malnutrition and constitutes a public health problem. Therefore, prevention actions directed specifically to the factors associated with this disease are being strengthened. General Objective: To determine the prevalence and factors associated with acute diarrheal disease in children under 5 years of age, El Valle, 2019. Methodology: The present study is quantitative and transversal. The universe of study consisted of 94 children of initial education of the Guillermo Mensi Educational Center of the parish of El Valle. The results are presented in frequency tables and percentages, for which the IBM SPSS 23 and Excel computer programs were used. Results: The average age of parents of children is from 31 to 35 years, 52% have secondary education, 41% have basic services, 76.6% perform hygiene after meals, 36% indicated that their child received breastfeeding up to 24 months and a prevalence of 23.4% of EDA was evidenced. Conclusions: It was concluded that the factors associated with EDA in the study population were the environmental factor: presence of animals in the home, inadequate storage and hygiene of food, lack of protection of garbage containers, deficiency in hand washing and biological factor: Type of breastfeeding before two years.
