Solid waste there since the dawn of humanity, as a result of the activity of human beings. Its physical and chemical composition has varied according to the cultural and technological evolution of civilization. The easiest way to find the primitive man have not edible waste was throw on a site near his home; thus was born the open dump practice that has continued to this day and have become a problem. Solid waste remains one of the most damaging pollutants to the environment, since it is a latent risk to health and hygiene problems. GENERAL OBJECTIVE.. Establish the characteristics of solid waste management in rural community of Maluay and urban neighborhood Los Senderos of Cuenca. METHODOLOGY. A descriptive study was conducted. To survey data was used home visits using interview techniques supported by a previously validated form. Data were grouped into Excel, SPSS and analyzed with descriptive statistics and scientific knowledge of political ecology programs. RESULTS. The results determined that the correct application on the management of solid waste in the rural community of Maluay and urban Barrio Los Senderos shows no positive effect, due to lack of knowledge or little interest from people in the field.
