    Anemia y estado nutricional en menores de 5 años. Hospital Pablo Jaramillo Crespo, Cuenca-Ecuador

    Anemia represents a disease with a high prevalence that is connected to the precarious situations that infants experience.Objectives: to determine the frequency of anemia and establish its relationship with the nutritional status in minors between 6 and 59 months admitted to the “Hospital Pablo Jaramillo Crespo”. Cuenca-Ecuador, 2017.Methodology: it is a retrospective study that established the frequency of anemia in children between 6 and 59 months hospitalized during January to December 2017, determining the link with the nutritional conditions of the patient. The analysis was carried out using the Epi-info program and the association test used was Pearson's Chi-square, admitting a p<0.05 to establish statistical significance.Results: 52.6% of the children were male and 47.4% female, pre-school age children predominating (51.9%). The frequency of anemia was 39.6%, of the children with anemia 6% had moderate to severe malnutrition, existing statistical significance. The children with anemia were female (51.3%) and 23.9% presented malnutrition, while children without this disease 55.2% belonged to the male and 18.6% were malnourished.Conclusion: it was found that anemia has a statistically, significant relationship with malnutrition

    "Prevalencia de los factores de riesgo para el desarrollo de síndrome metabólico en adolescentes que cursan el ciclo diversificado del Colegio Técnico Particular Sudamericano en la ciudad de Cuenca durante el año lectivo 2010 - 2011"

    Background Metabolic Syndrome has become a main public health problems and it associates with cardiovascular disease remains one of the leading causes of death in Ecuador. There are few studies that assessed risk factors for the development of metabolic syndrome in adolescents. We conducted an investigation to determine the prevalence of risk factors. Method This is a prevalence study between the period from February to May, 2010. The universe will be the students of Técnico Particular Sudamericano High School of Cuenca´s city. It will identify risk factors for metabolic syndrome according to WHO the variables in this study are: gender, age, weight, height, BMI, waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol and consumption cigarettes. Then we will proceed to realize a relation between each parameter. Results In this project there is not a student with metabolic syndrome. About 300 students, only four of them has two risk factors (hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia), although physical inactivity and smoking are related to metabolic and cardiovascular disorders, this study found no relationship between risk factors.
