The study is proposed in three stages. The first stage is a diagnostic of the current state of the bridge. It is made with the objective of determining the wear out level of its components. Also, the analysis is based on a functional evaluation and of the traffic. This information is collected with the intention of knowing the level of service that the bridge presents. Second stage, basic engineering studies are performed to determine the characteristics of the place where the bridge is located. Therefore, a topographic survey is carried out in order to represent, in a suitable format, variables found in the field. In addition, a geotechnical survey is contemplated to set the type and shape of the foundations to be used in the bridge. Finally in this stage, through a hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, it is necessary to establish the maximum flow of the river that helps to design the enlargement, the drainage capacity, and to stipulate the depth of scour. Third stage, it is proposed an alternative design for the enlargement of San Ramon Bridge based on the calculation of the AASHTO standards and taking in consideration the general specifications for the construction of bridges and roads provided by the MTOP. Also, an analysis for the reinforcement of the existing structure is performed using a new and innovative technology of polymers reinforced with fibers (Carbon Fibers). Finally, a referential budge is presented from which the local authorities can conduct a feasibility evaluation for the implementation of project.
