    Prevalencia del neumococo y sensibilidad a la penicilina en preescolares de 3 a 6 años del cantón Cuenca 2005

    This work was performed in order to determine the prevalence of pneumococcal and sensitivity to penicillin in preschoolers 3-6 years old in our midst. For this was taken as universe a population of 35,109 children between 3-6 years of age; for calculation shows the total employed 1of the universe to be studied, resulting in 351 random samples from different kindergartens and schools, both urban and rural areas and to meet the requirements, like children who do not show pathology pharyngotonsillar and who are not receiving antibiotics at the time of sample collection treatment; it should be emphasized that the taking of the samples were performed under aseptic standards, in order not to influence the outcome of the study. After obtaining the samples was carried out a culture based on blood and suspect colonies they are replanted Agar and later identification test was applied based optochin, which was positive when the colonies had a alo greater inhibition 12 mm, which indicated to us the presence of S. pneumoniae. Finally test conducted sensitivity to penicillin (oxacillin). As a result of our study, the prevalence of pneumococcus in our country was 11.4, compared to 20 to 40señalado in international medical literature. Pneumococcus showed sensitivity to penicillin by 35, while the 65no showed sensitivity to the drug.
