Acute appendicitis is the surgical entity examined with more frequently in emergency services. The diagnosis is clinical and is supported by studies that establish parameters that signs and symptoms grouped together with laboratory tests, which help and guide the diagnosis and treatment of this disease. OBJECTIVE: To decrease the number of negative appendectomies and the number of postoperative complications, we designed a multicenter descriptive transversal study which attempted to determine the applicability of Alvarado score in patients older than 12 years who presented to the Emergency Hospital "Vicente Corral Moscoso. METHODS: Information was obtained from medical records, using a form of data collection: the Alvarado Score. RESULTS: Regarding the ultrasound diagnosis yielded a sensitivity of 80% and specificity of 68.97%, and the Alvarado score sensitivity was 91.8% and specificity of 100%. CONCLUSIONS: The Alvarado Score enables the diagnosis of acute appendicitis, from a clinical point of view and helps to reduce the negative appendectomy. We consider that Alvarado Score and ultrasound complemented to increase the sensitivity and diagnostic specificity in acute appendicitis.
