(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-10-28) Álvarez Barrera, Ricardo Sebastián; Bermeo Alvarado, Karen Michelle; Morocho Malla, Manuel Ismael
Background: Sexual satisfaction involves the human ability to integrate physical and emotional aspects within the context of sexual activity, providing benefits in terms of pleasure or the absence of it. Objective: To determine the level of sexual satisfaction among first to third-year nursing students at the University of Cuenca in 2024. Methods: A descriptive study was carried out; the universe was made up of 325 enrolled students. A sample of 176 students was randomly selected, to whom the New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NSSS) and a sociodemographic questionnaire were administered as data collection tools. The data was tabulated using SPSS version 29.0, and descriptive statistics were employed for analysis, based on frequencies and percentages. Results: The majority of the population studied was female (81.3%), with an average age of 19.65 years. The 43.2% of the students were in their second year of nursing, 99.4% were single, and 97.2% were of mixed ethnicity. Among them, male students reported the highest sexual satisfaction (57.60%), followed by young adults (53.8%), while single students reported low sexual satisfaction (37.10%). Conclusions: Sexual satisfaction is predominant among males and young adults, while it decreases among singles. This finding is similar with international studies regarding sex, but differs in terms of age and marital status.
