    Estudio y caracterización de criterios para la estimación del bordo libre en presas de tierra con aplicación al proyecto PACALORI

    This research aims to propose a practical methodology for estimating freeboard (vertical distance between the crest of the dam and the water level in the reservoir when the spillway works to the design capacity) with application to earth dams of the PLAN DE APROVECHAMIENTO Y CONTROL DE AGUA DE LA PROVINCIA DE LOS RÍOS (PACALORI) project. To accomplish this, we investigated the relationship that this study would have with geological, hydrological and hydraulic safety, and then we have been identified the possible causes of generating waves and their respective influencing parameters, considering that its applicability is dependent on the existence of the information. For then, we could understand and describe each of the criteria considered in the investigation. Additionally, an analysis of waves generated by landslides falling into the reservoir has been made, and although they have a very low probability of occurrence, if it occurs, can cause serious damage to the dam. Finally analyzed through comparisons between criteria influencing parameters, achieving secure the choice of the criteria with better arguments, which is the ExperienciaCubana criteria.
