The Chapel of Susudel is a heritage of religious architecture that has transcended over the years. It forms part of the main historical area set out in the technical document for the Declaration of the Historical Center of Oña, in the province of Azuay. The investigation proposes to establish preventive conservation strategies, by means of preservation actions, through understanding the reality of the sector, the analysis of the state of conservation of the Chapel of Susudel, The research carries out an organized study of the building. The methodology is based on the preventive conservation approach proposed by ICOMOS 2003. This approach comprises a systematic process of examination of the building and it begins with gathering data and analyzing building and environmental information. Moreover, it identifies heritage values considering different perspectives: public, private, cultural, etc. using tools such as Nara matrix. The process also includes damage identification which uses a monograph file to assess the conservation status of the building, recommends a treatment based on key findings, and eventually sets up continuous control and monitoring. The use of preventive strategies for conservation methodology in this thesis, allowed to develop a set of tools that contributes to improve built heritage conservation. Certainly, these tools will strengthen control and monitoring actions.
