Item Prevalencia de violencia intrafamiliar en el adulto mayor en la Unidad de Desarrollo Social del Cantón Paute, período 2023(Universidad de Cuenca, 2024-05-07) Barrera Morocho, Silvia Janneth; Espinoza Guamán, Pedro SebastiánBackground: Domestic violence against older adults is a public health problem; the family unit andaging should not be the point of greatest vulnerability. General objective: Determine the prevalence of domestic violence in older adults in the SocialDevelopment Unit of the Paute zone. Methods: Quantitative, observational, descriptive-correlational study. The census sample was madeup of 77 older adults between the ages of 65-96 years. The Velis L, questionnaire was used, its purposeis to determine sociodemographic data, domestic violence and its typology; psychological, physical, financial, neglect and sexual, plus the Geriatric Scale of Elder Abuse by Giraldo L, and Rosas O, reliability of 0,83%, which evaluates abuse and its forms validated in Mexico. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 27 program was used, quantitative and qualitative variables were analyzed with frequency (f) and percentage (%) values and a Chi-square test with a value of p < 0.05 for statistical significance. Results: The population was represented by 72,73% women, age range of 65-79 years, married 40,26% incomplete primary school 64,94%, rural area 61,04% and unemployed with 80,52%. Psychological violence predominated with 64,94% and sexual violence predominated with 5,19%. There was a correlation between the characteristics; age and violence due to neglect (p = 0.00); and sex with physical (p = 0.03) and psychological violence (p = 0.01). Conclusions: In the study, domestic violence received by an older adult is high with 77,9%, with universal coincidence with this rural area surveyed
