In the region, insufficient attention is paid to the operation and maintenance of a potable water supply system (especially in rural areas); Generally, these activities are held responsible to the person who performs the operation tasks. When these practices are not applied correctly, the useful life of the infrastructures decreases, generates a greater expense in the long term and consequently an inefficient service is provided. For this reason, a basic guide has been prepared that serves to evaluate and keep records of the operation and maintenance activities of the drinking water supply systems. Six systems have been selected located in the rural sector of the Cuenca canton with the objective of evaluating their operation and maintenance practices, for this, the systems have been traversed from the collection to the treatment plant, information has been obtained from the Public Company Municipal Telecommunications, Drinking Water and Sewerage of Cuenca (ETAPA EP) and with them has entered into conversations with operators. Finally, it has been found that most of these only act on the basis of corrective maintenance and rehabilitation.
