Evaluación energética de los residuos de poda de la planta de cacao de las variedades CCN-51 y Nacional

Fossil fuels, historically, have moved the world, which has resulted in increasing pollution. However, new methods and technologies are currently being applied to reduce emissions from fossil fuels. Therefore, the foregoing study is conducted in the framework of the “Biocombustibles” project, whose main objective is to assess the pruning residues of the cacao plant, CCN-51 and Nacional varieties, by comparing characteristic parameters of the biomass. A simple was analyzed and physical and chemical properties, including size, shape, grain size distribution, immediate analysis, and calorific value, were determined. Biomass availability was also quantified. The chemical analysis on stems and leaves separately from the varieties of cacao mentioned above showed percentages ranging from 51-53% of humidity in leaves, 65-67% in stems; 8-9% of ash in leaves and 6-8% in stems; 82-84% of volatile matter in leaves and 83-84% in stems; 7-8% of fixed carbon in leaves and 7-9% in stems. Finally, when determining the calorific value, values between 16600-16800 kJ/Kg in the leaves and values between 15600-16000kJ/Kg in the stems were calculated. It does not show an important variation among its values and therefore, it might be deemed as a single biomass for the energetic assessment. The amount of energy coming from this biomass represents 1749946,75 toe per year.
