Percepciones de discriminación de las personas trans en la ciudad de Cuenca
(2018) Avila Villavicencio, Jonatan Pablo; López Alvarado, Silvia Lucía
The aim of this research project was to explore the perceptions towards discrimination of the trans individuals of the city of Cuenca, year 2018. It was chosen, as an analytical perspective, the critical contribution about social inequalities that is offered by the gender and human rights approach. In order to methodologically assess the trans discrimination phenomena, a qualitative study was designed. The participants of this study were members of the trans community that live in the city, specifically the female trans, who were young adults and who suffered from discrimination experiences. The type of sample applied was the non-probabilistic and intentional one in which 15 individuals participated. The technique to collect data was focus groups. A thematic analysis was applied which consisted in a coding process followed by a construction of categories. The results showed that, among the experiences of discrimination suffered by the participants, their perceptions revealed that the ones that occurred within the family environment are more relevant due to the reproduction of patterns of social exclusion. Moreover, particular difficulties on the personal and social level related to the experiences as a trans person were identified. Thus, it was established the necessity of social inclusion of this group which is grounded in the processes of sociocultural recognition about their lived experiences as trans individuals.
