    Análisis y diseño de estructuras metálicas mediante estática gráfica

    The present research deals with the use of Graphic Statics Method as an alternative for Vector Mechanics Method. This gives a new design and analysis tool that contributes structural intuition to the design process. This research includes the development of an analytic method and computational implementation in Matlab of the Graphic Statics Method for the calculus of metal structures. Furthermore, the steel structural design tool with the method AISC 360-10 (LRFD) as well as an optimization aid that lets the user search the optimal position within a given scan range are incorporated. As a result this modifies the shape, and at the same time decreases the volume of steel required by the structure. Additionally, a comparison between the results from the method of Vector Mechanics (Matrix Method) and the results from the Graphic Statics and Ram Advanse software is made. This comparison allows verifying the validity and the advantages of the Graphic Statics Method that is developed in this research. This research discusses that Graphic Statics generates a structural insight in the design process that is shown in the reciprocity between the shape and strength diagrams. Thus more sustainable and efficient designs that are derived from the geometry of its elements and not only from the properties of strength of materials are created.
